The Most Custom Home We’ve Built… Yet.
I’m writing this post reflecting on the last year of designing and building this gorgeous custom home in Tarrington, Midlothian for an amazing family relocating from DC.
When builders say they build “custom homes” they usually mean they build customized homes - meaning they more so just let you “personalize” your home rather than truly customize. You have to pick one of their plans, you get to make 2 or 3 predetermined changes to it, and pick from an array of pre-selected options for fixtures from a design center.
While certainly that is the easiest way to build home, allowing the builder to build quickly, cheaply, and mitigate risks, Keel took on a larger scope in order to make sure our clients could unleash their creative desires and build the forever-home of their dreams.
From Pen and Paper to…
A beautiful, cohesive, 5,000 square foot home with room for more kids, family stays, and friends to entertain. No space went unconsidered. Through hours and hours of plan design, revising, visualizing, and coordinating with architects, engineers, board directors, and city personnel, we were able to get a permit approved with very few hiccups. This process, more than anything, takes time and excruciating attention to detail when you desire a truly custom built home.
Creating a custom home “from scratch” is both an exciting and complex journey! With countless decisions, coordination efforts, and details to monitor, it can feel overwhelming without the right experience or preparation. Our team works tirelessly to ensure every aspect is perfectly aligned. Each home we build offers new lessons, yet in custom projects, unexpected challenges naturally arise. From design adjustments to material delays and evolving information, these are common parts of building a unique home for the first time. Turning designs into a real home is an exhilarating experience for everyone involved. We are grateful to all of our resources for helping us make this happen!
